-
Why is Ascendium calling me?As a student loan guarantor, we are contacted by your servicer when your loan becomes more than 60 days delinquent so that we can reach out and offer assistance. We may also reach out on behalf of the school you attended to offer assistance.
-
I am being contacted by Ascendium and other companies about my student loan. Why is that? One possibility is that your servicer and your guarantor are contacting you for the same loan. You may also have loans with companies that Ascendium isn't the guarantor for. You can go to www.studentaid.gov to verify the company that holds your loans.
-
Who do I make my payments to?You can go to www.studentaid.gov to verify the company that holds your loans.
-
How can I verify who you say you are?Your loan servicer should be able to confirm who we are, or you can contact the U.S. Department of Education.

What does Ascendium do?Ascendium is a guarantor for loans made through the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP), and that is a big part of what we do. We also develop and provide a variety of services to colleges that have to do with helping their students manage their loans responsibly, including Direct Student Loans. Through our education philanthropy program, we help learners from low-income backgrounds succeed in postsecondary education and workforce training.

Why did Ascendium send me a tax document? If you have/had loans with GLHEGC, USAF or NELA, you will now see Ascendium on communications, on your credit report file, on tax documents 1098-E or 1099-C and on Treasury notices pertaining to an IRS offset. Ascendium Education Solutions (Ascendium) is our new name since November of 2018 and replaces Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation (GLHEGC) (and as of January 1, 2019, its USAF and NELA affiliates). If you have/had loans with GLHEGC, USAF or NELA, you will now see Ascendium on communications, on your credit report file, on tax documents 1098-E or 1099-C and on Treasury notices pertaining to an IRS offset. Rest assured that the actions performed by Ascendium are the same actions that were performed by GLHEGC, USAF and NELA. On credit reports, the Ascendium trade line replaces GLHEGC, USAF and NELA. The only difference is our name. For credit report and refund questions, please contact our guarantor loan servicer at 800-331-2314.
